Shots fired in store robbery

Police are investigating a case of armed robbery following an incident at a cellphone store at Parow Centre last week.

Two armed men robbed the MTN store of cellphones which they had placed in two bags on Tuesday June 20, just after 3pm. They fled with one bag as another shop owner fired shots at them.

According to Parow police spokesman, Captain Kevin Williams, no one was injured in the gunfire, but a man was hit on his arm with a gun.

Gaba Majola, MTN’s general manager: Branded Channels, Branded Retail Channel said the company was arranging post-traumatic counselling for the employees and customers who had been present during the incident and called on people with information to pass this on to police.

Northern News asked Parow Centre for comment last week, but by the time this edition went to print, they had not responded.

Parow SAPS needs information in a culpable homicide case, following a crash at the corner of Connaught Road and Fransie van Zyl Drive, on Sunday May 28. Two vehicles, an Alfa Romeo (registration number CA 706918) and a Ford Fiesta (registration number CF 238917) were involved. A woman in the Alfa Romeo died in the crash.
