This interactive timeline goes back to 1976 and re-visits the elements that lead up to the tumultuous events of June 16 – and beyond!

On that day, many of South Africa’s Youth fought for and sacrificed their lives to achieve fair education and abolish the Bantu Education Act.

The youth united to oppose the practice of having to be schooled in Afrikaans, a language of which was not familiar to most .

This interactive guide is aimed at summarising the story and give it a framework of reference.
