Cape Town – Head of Crime Line and Primedia’s group head of news and current affairs Yusuf Abramjee on Wednesday announced he would leave the media company at the end of December.

“Primedia is a great company and I have enjoyed my many years in various roles,” said Abramjee.

“However, I’m excited at being able to start a new chapter in my career and also expand my horizons globally.”

Abramjee planned to leave Primedia at the end of December and would begin his work as Global Communication Director for Crime Stoppers International (CSI), an organisation for which he previously served as a second vice president.

“At the same time, I will also be doing international relief work. On the domestic front, my activism will continue and I will continue to focus on mobilisation and communication,” he said.

A founding member of Primedia Broadcasting and Independent Newspaper’s call to action Lead SA, Abramjee most recently made news when he wrote an open letter to President Jacob Zuma urging the nation’s leader to take the fight against crime more seriously.

Abramjee had also received numerous awards, such as as a national order from Zuma, the silver Order of the Baobab. He was also appointed as chairman of the South African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT).

Primedia Broadcasting chief executive Terry Volkwyn commented on the announcement: “Yusuf has been a larger-than-life character in our business and has brought his remarkable energy and drive to every project that he’s tackled.”

“He is passionate about what he does and is unstoppable in his pursuit of bringing about change,” she said.

“He’s a man of action, a ‘do-er’, and has made possible numerous things which others thought were impossible. We will miss his humour and spirit and wish him great success in his new adventures.”
