A man was stoned to death by school pupils, when he and two accomplices tried to rob them at their school on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Brigadier Phindile Radebe said the three men - armed with a knife and a firearm - tried to rob pupils of their cellphones and cash at the school in Umbumbulu at 7.30am.
The children retaliated by throwing stones at them. They fled.
