Cape Town - A Mitchells Plain couple, charged with the murder of Oranjezicht brothel owner Pedro Lopez, have taken the first step towards finalising the case through a plea and sentence agreement.

This emerged in the Western Cape High Court yesterday when Octavia Mulder and her boyfriend, Trevor Daries, appeared for a pre-trial conference in connection with murder and aggravated robbery charges. Lopez, who died after he was stabbed several times on May 8 last year, employed Mulder as a make-up artist.

The State alleges there was a scuffle between Daries and Lopez that night after Lopez refused to give Mulder money that he owed her. Daries, who had a knife, then allegedly stabbed Lopez in the back, chest, arm and feet.

In court yesterday, State advocate Megan Blows told Judge Robert Henney that the defence had “expressed a desire” to enter into plea bargain negotiations. Judge Henney postponed the case to June 20, but told them they could approach him in chambers if an agreement was reached before that date.
