Vehicles the KwaZulu-Natal government allocated to Zulu royal households were not fit for queens, according to Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini.

SABC radio news reported on Monday that the Zulu monarch had complained that the provincial government was not giving the monarchy the necessary support.

His queens had to drive old and unsafe vehicles, he said.

The king also complained that roads near his royal palaces were in a poor state and, as a result, tourists were kept away.

Addressing the royal households portfolio committee at KwaNongoma, Zwelithini proposed the establishment of a trust to ensure that the Zulu royal household was self-sufficient and not reliant of state handouts. - Sapa
