Musclemen - and women - will line up on Friday night at the GrandWest Casino to register for the chance to grapple each other at the Western Cape arm-wrestling competition starting next week.
Winners in the various age groups will return to the casino late in October to compete for the national title. The winner emerges from a series of double elimination matches.
The South African arm-wrestling champions in various weight classifications will then venture to Tokyo for the international competition.
The regional competition is expected to draw at least 200 participants.
Arm-wrestlers have to work out hard at least two or three times a week to achieve maximum arm, wrist and hand strength. They regularly challenge other arm-wrestlers.
Registration for the event begins at 7pm on Friday. The contests take place at GrandWest on June 9, 16, and 30, July 14 and 21 and August 9. - Staff Reporter.
