National toll tariffs will increase by 4.71 percent on average from Tuesday, the SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) said on Friday.
Sanral CEO Nazir Alli said: “The tariffs are adjusted in accordance with the preceding 12-month Consumer Price Index.
“Available funding for the national road network is decided in the context of other pressing demands on the fiscus. Given that South Africa's road infrastructure requires substantial investment - and frequent reinvestment - it uses the ‘user-pay’ principle to keep the national road network in a condition that reduces the cost of repair and maintenance of vehicles.”
The toll adjustments are for all conventional toll plazas in the country.
