The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday said it was appalled by visuals on television news that displayed police brutality and praised police commissioner Jackie Selebi for acting swiftly and arresting the culprits.
In a statement in Johannesburg, the DA praised the national police commissioner and said police misconduct should not be condoned.
Graphic visuals on SABC showed uniformed policemen setting dogs on two illegal immigrants. The dogs savagely mauled the men. One of the injured is in a serious condition.
Six policemen were identified from the recording and arrested on Tuesday afternoon.
