Port Elizabeth - Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of house robbery after an elderly lady was held up and severely beaten on Friday morning.

Police spokesperson, Captain Johan Rheeder, said the woman was approached by a suspect at her home in Haworthia Drive in Malabar.

Rheeder said the suspect was wearing blue overalls at the time of the incident.

"She walked to her kitchen door and the suspect was there waiting for her. He fled with a cellphone, laptop and her purse containing her ID booklet," said Rheeder.

He said that the woman was tied up with a rope and hit in the face several times.
