Johannesburg - A ten-year-old boy drowned in a public pool in Motherwell, Eastern Cape on Saturday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinman said paramedics arrived to find the child had already died. Over 45 people have drowned in the Eastern Cape since the beginning of December.

Most of the incidents happened in the Tsitsa and Mzimvubu rivers while others drowned in the Buffalo and Swartkops rivers, at Bluewater Bay, at Tina Falls, and in various dams. - Sapa
