Several stores at the Greenacres mall in Port Elizabeth were damaged when a fire broke out on Thursday morning, the mall's management said.
About 26 stores would not open for business on Thursday due to smoke and water damage, spokeswoman Vanessa Sabbatini said in a statement.
Greenacres centre management said earlier the fire broke out in the House and Home store around 3am.
“The fire department were immediately called to the scene and are still on site.”
The cause of the blaze was not known, but investigations were underway.
The closed businesses were: Checkers, House and Home, Spitz, Absa, Bargain Books, Ackermans, Jet, Rage, Levisons, Romens, Exact, Identity, Queenspark, Debonairs, Froggies at Tinas, Health and Comfort Shoes, Shoe City, Travelex, Fragrance Boutique, Cut Above, Home Comforts, which is part of Ackermans, Sheet Street, Maurice Levin Jewellers, Torga Optical, Pollocks, BT Games. – Sapa
