Cape Town - An intense cold front with a possibility of snow is expected to affect the Western Cape and Northern Cape, according to the South African Weather Service.

The cold front was expected to sweep the Western Cape, western and central parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, North West province, KwaZulu-Natal as well as the Eastern Cape from Wednesday through to Thursday.

Then its expected to affect Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces from Friday through to Sunday, the weather service said.

Gale force winds, strong interior winds, heavy rain, flooding, very cold conditions, snowfalls and rough seas can be expected in places.

Flooding is expected over the Cape Metropole, Cape Winelands and Overberg.

Snowfalls are expected over the western high ground of the Western Cape and southern high ground of the Northern Cape on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. - Sapa
