East London - The Daily Dispatch announced the appointment of Bongani Siqoko as its new editor on Wednesday.

“Bongani has been appointed editor of the Daily Dispatch. We made the announcement today,” said Times Media Group (TMG) deputy managing director Andrew Gill.

Siqoko would take up his new position at the East London newspaper on June 1.

Outgoing editor Brendan Boyle would join The Sunday Times as an executive editor.

Eastern Cape African National Congress spokesman Mlibo Qoboshiyane welcomed the new appointment.

“We wish him well in his new responsibilities and we hope that during his editorship the Dispatch will do more in educating, informing and entertaining our people. Most importantly we trust that ethical journalism will be the order of the day.”

In a statement Qoboshiyane said Siqoko's appointment was good for the young people in the Eastern Cape. - Sapa
