Qunu - Nelson Mandela’s family has asked for a ban on filming his burial in Qunu on Sunday.

This was revealed by the acting head of the Government Communication and Information System, Phumla Williams, when she addressed a media briefing yesterday with Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane.

Williams said at the SABC’s Radio Park that it was the family’s wish that no still or video photographers be allowed at Mandela’s graveside when his coffin was lowered into the ground.

Filming would be allowed during the church service. Chabane said the funeral was expected to start at 9am and last for three hours.

Mandela’s body would be taken to Qunu by the SA Air Force, leaving from Waterkloof Air Force Base, landing at Mthatha Airport then being driven to Qunu.

Chabane emphasised that due to logistical problems, fewer than 5 000 people would be allowed at Mandela’s funeral.
