Qunu -

The cosmopolitan world which former president Nelson Mandela navigated with aplomb was on display in an opera interlude at his state funeral in Qunu on Sunday.

A duet, half in English and half in Italian, was sung by a man and woman, accompanied by an orchestra.

The woman was dressed in a mustard-coloured, traditional isiXhosa outfit and the man in a tuxedo.

The song ended on a high note, and the audience loudly applauded and cheered the performance.

The names of the two singers were not immediately available. - Sapa
