A probe into Eastern Cape education superintendent general Modidima Mannya is going ahead, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's office said on Tuesday.
Madonsela was investigating claims of maladministration by Mannya within the provincial education department, her spokeswoman Kgalalelo Masibi said in a statement.
“The investigation into allegations of irregular appointment is the only part of the investigation that she 1/8Madonsela 3/8 is no longer pursuing as a court of law is in the process of making a determination on that matter, Masibi said.
“The Public Protector Act prohibits the Public Protector from scrutinising court decisions.”
The probe would look into the appointment of consultants who did not tender for a R1.4 million contract.
Also being examined was alleged maladministration in the awarding of stationery tenders and of a tender for the reconstruction of mud schools.
Madonsela would investigate the lack of transport, school nutrition and stationery for pupils at the beginning of 2011 and the absence of winter school the same year, said Masibi.
She said the investigation would be concluded by the end of March 2012. - Sapa
