Heavy rain will continue falling in the Eastern Cape over the weekend, the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality said on Thursday.

Spokesman Cupido Baron said the SA Weather Service had warned of light rain on Thursday night, followed by heavy downpours from Friday to Sunday.

Several roads had to be closed in the municipality, which includes Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage, due to flooding.

“Seaview Road, Rocklands Road and the Lake Farm Road (all in PE) are still closed at this stage and motorists are requested to be extremely careful on the N2 at the Standford Road bridge in a easterly direction.”

Baron said a water pipeline was damaged, affecting supply to the KwaNobuhle and Rooihoogte areas. - Sapa
