Johannesburg - A woman nearly lost her leg when two boats collided on the Krom River, in St Francis Bay, the NSRI said on Sunday.

“It appears that one boat collided with the other boat before hurtling through the air over the boat with which it collided,” National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesman Craig Lambinon said in a statement.

The propeller was thought to have severed an artery in the 25-year-old woman's leg, he said.

A doctor, a vet and a nurse, who were in the area at the time, helped stop the bleeding. The woman was taken to a waiting ambulance by a river cruise boat and was believed to be in stable condition, Lambinon said.

Other people were also injured, but it was not known how many, or the extent of their injuries.

Lambinon said details about the accident were not yet clear, but it seemed three people were on board a ski-boat which collided with another boat with five people on board.

“It appears that other patients, males and females, related to the accident have or are still receiving treatment in hospital for injuries,” he said

Information about them was difficult establish as some had left the scene by the time the NSRI and ambulance arrived. - Sapax
