Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has expressed sadness over the death of seven people in an accident on the N2 between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.
“As government we are saddened and shocked by this horrific accident,” Zuma said in a statement.
“We extend our warmest condolences to families and friends of the victims, we wish those who were injured a speedy recovery.”
Those who died included three Eastern Cape correctional services officials and a two-year-old child.
Four other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to various hospitals, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said earlier.
Zuma appealed to motorists and pedestrians to respect the rules of the road and drive responsibly.
