eskom families INDEPENDENT MEDIA No power cuts have been planned for the day, power utility Eskom said on Thursday.

Johannesburg - Eskom has implemented power cuts in parts of the country due to its constrained power grid.

“Due to the severely constrained power system, Eskom started implementing rotational load reduction from 5.12pm this afternoon,” it said in a statement.

“We anticipate that we will be implementing load reduction until 7pm tonight.”

Eskom called on citizens to “urgently” switch off geysers, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances.

“Should we receive the necessary savings from all our customers and the situation improves, we will terminate load reduction earlier,” it said.

“Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system.”

Municipal customers were urged to contact their municipalities for the schedules or contact Eskom's customer care centre.
