The family of prominent businessman Humphrey Khoza, who was killed in a car crash, has been shattered by their sudden loss.

Family spokesperson Zanele Nhlayisi on Sunday said the Khozas were still trying to come to terms with his death. "They're devastated. This is a difficult time for them."

Khoza, 58, died when he was thrown from his Mercedes-Benz S500 as it hit a sign post after he lost control of the vehicle on the wet N12 east near the Comaro Street off-ramp, Alberton, at 9pm on Friday night.

Khoza was the CEO of Orion Technologies Nigeria, the licensed operator of the Lagos state lotteries.

He was also the head of empowerment company Mpande Holdings, and an independent director of Primedia. He was also well known as the former CEO of Uthingo, the firm that ran South Africa's first national lottery.

Khoza will be buried on Saturday. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday.
