Forty-two farm workers were injured when they fell from a moving truck in Bethlehem on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesman Andre Visser said the labourers were being transported to work in an open carriage truck when the left side-guard of the carriage broke away.

Paramedics found the injured passengers strewn across a distance of 80 metres on the S1128.

Visser said 11 of the patients sustained minor injuries while 31 sustained more serious injuries, ranging from back and neck injuries to broken legs and arms. They were taken to various hospitals.

The cause of the accident was not clear. – Sapa
