Baby found abandoned

A new-born baby was found abandoned but alive in Welkom, Free State police said on Thursday.

Sergeant Puleng Motsoeneng said a man was shocked to find the baby wrapped in a blanket, quietly lying in an open field next to Intermine Services in Welkom.

The police were called and the baby was taken to Bongani Hospital.

Motsoeneng said the baby was in good health and had survived the cold weather conditions.
