A seven-year-old boy was critically injured when a cement water pipe fell on him in Fauna, Bloemfontein, on Monday, paramedics said.

He was among a group of children playing at the school when the pipe, usually used for water drainage, fell on him, said ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson.

When paramedics got there, the boy was in a critical condition, with extensive head and chest injuries, she said.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Pelonomi Hospital.
