Ficksburg – Eight people were injured in a crash involving a minibus taxi, a bakkie, and a car on the corner of Bloem and Church streets in Ficksburg on Sunday, Free State paramedics said.

“It is believed that the bakkie and light motor vehicle collided, which led to the light motor vehicle overturning. The taxi then allegedly collided with the overturned vehicle,” ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw said.

The driver of the car was trapped and ER24 paramedics broke the car’s windscreen to extricate the patient safely.

“Thereafter the patient was treated and transported by ER24 to Mediclinic Hoogland for further treatment. ER24 also treated and transported five other patients to Ficksburg Provincial Hospital. The remaining patients were treated and transported by other services.”

The fire department was also dispatched to ensure safety on the scene as the car was leaking large amounts of petrol onto the road. The cause of the accident was unknown, but local authorities were investigating, Rossouw said.
