Free State man treated for cholera

Bloemfontein, Free State - A Winburg resident was treated for cholera in Welkom last week, the Volksblad newspaper reported on Thursday.

The 42-year-old man, whose name was withheld by health officials, lived in Winburg and worked in Bloemfontein.

According to the report it was not known where the man contracted cholera. Water samples had been taken in Winburg and the provincial government was waiting for the results.

Residents were warned to boil their drinking water before consuming it.

According to the newspaper the man was admitted to the Welkom Mediclinic on February 5 and discharged on February 9.

The case was reported to the health department. Winburg residents had been battling with unclean drinking water for some time, the Volksblad reported.
