Sasolburg - A man in his 50s was in a critical condition after he was hit by the hook from a crane at a construction site in Naledi Industrial area in Sasolburg on Monday, ER24 reported.

ER24 said when paramedics arrrived on the scene they found the patient lying on top of a container while the hook from the crane was dangling from the side of the container.

“When the paramedics got on the container and assessed him they found that he had sustained severe injuries to his head, chest and back,” ER24 said. “He was provided with advanced life support and was immobilised as well to stabilise his condition.”

After he was treated the man was airlifted in the ER24 helicopter to Mediclinic Sandton where he received urgent treatment.

It is understood that the man had been on top of the container when the crane cable snapped, causing the hook to swing and hit the man.
