Ficksburg - A man died and two women were injured when their car crashed into a tree in Ficksburg in the Free State, paramedics said on Thursday.

ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said paramedics were told that the driver swerved to avoid hitting a horse, resulting in him crashing into a tree on Wednesday night.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

She said the man was trapped in his vehicle and his two female passengers were found seated on the ground near the carnage.

“Provincial emergency services personnel extricated the deceased while paramedics treated his passengers who sustained minor injuries.”

The injured women were transported to hospital.

The accident occurred along the R26, 10km outside Ficksburg. - Sapa
