An ANC task team is set to begin probing irregularities in the party's list process, the team's chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said on Tuesday.
The team was set to start its work in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
“We acknowledge that despite the great success of this process, there were difficulties in some areas,” Dlamini-Zuma said in a statement.
“The task team will be working hard to address these problems, and to ensure that people serving in our local, district and metropolitan municipalities are truly those who have been chosen with the participation of the communities.”
The ANC subjected its candidates for councillors to scrutiny by the communities they were meant to serve for the first time ahead of the 2011 local elections.
Dlamini-Zuma said the new process had “greatly improved” the party's candidate selection process.
“The people have put forward candidates with integrity, who are capable and committed to building better communities,” she said.
The setting up of the team was announced by President Jacob Zuma ahead of the election. This was after protests and court action against the party by its own members who charged that the process was flawed.
Dlamini-Zuma said the task team would visit other provinces. The timing would be announced in due course.
The team comprises ANC members Naledi Pandor, Ellen Molekane, James Stuart, Lehlohonolo Moloi, Nonzwakazi Sigxashe and Archie Whitehead. -

Lets hope that the initative that is given to Nkosazane will come up with outcomes that will benefirt the community at the sametime not dividing the ANC. THis is a dificult decision from the ANC, because things happen according to the President of the ANC they are many pople who are going to loose their job and tenders.

Unfortunately Theo, the ANC selection process does not work like that. Whilst it is true that WARD Candidates cannot be removed without a by-election which the DA and indeed all other parties would welcome, a PR List candidate can be chopped and changed on a whim. For example, when the party realised that in the Umngeni Municipality the comrades had selected a clueless bunch of candidates none of whom is fit to be mayor, they selected their own candidate from the municipal management itself, one Mbali Mnyeni - 2IC to the former disgraced (and fired) municipal mananger Vilikazi. What this means is that some-one had to step down from their PR seat (and a salary of about 150K per annum) to make way. Not that Mneyi will be any good for Umngeni either but at least she will heed her masters call when needed. One can only assume that the person who stepped down will be "depolyed" somewhere else within government or the party (the distinction between which continues to be fuzzy to say the least). A looter continua.

Led like lambs to the slaughter by a Judas goat> The people rejected certain candidates foisted on them by the ANC , yet still voted for them on the promise that it would be sorted out after the election. You cannot swop candidates after the vote has taken place,it necessitates another vote. The old addage of"you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time", certainly does not apply in SA. The gullable masses are fooled all of the time by pie in the sky promisses. What a shame they have not the capacity to differentiate.

Hope they sort the mess out in pietermaritzburg where corrupt people who shared responsibility for the collapse of the city have been promoted in the council and where the ANC has ignored racial equity in its appointments. The previous Mayor Zanele Hlatswayo, who was part and parcel responsible for the collapse of the city was appointed by the Department of Health in a Managerial position which in a clearly "jobs for Pals" move by the ANC. How can anyone still believe the corrupt ANC when it says it wants to get rid of corruption? maybe they ment corruption by anyone else BUT the ANC. This party's agenda is clearly not to adhere to its false promises before the election.may the voters realise this for onece and for all. You are being taken for ride by the ANC and will not see any delivery of services and elimination of ANC corruption.
