Johannesburg - A five-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, paramedics said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night, said Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann.
“Reports from the scene indicate the little boy was playing with his sister and ran towards the house when the weather started thundering,” said Steinmann.
“As the boy grabbed the steel security gate, he was struck by lightning.”
Paramedics declared the child dead on the scene.
