Johannesburg - A brother and sister drowned while swimming in a dam in Hercules in Pretoria, police said on Thursday.

Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the six-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother were on their way to their aunt's house when they went for a swim in the dam on Wednesday afternoon.

A third child, their cousin, swam with them, but got out of the dam and called for help when they started struggling.

Paramedics arrived to find that the boy had drowned. The girl's body was found later by members of the search and rescue team.
