Bus crash injury toll risesComment on this story
Johannesburg - Four people were killed on Monday when a bus veered off the road, in Fontainebleau, Randburg, and hit 12 people, Johannesburg emergency services said.
Around 4.30pm, the driver apparently lost control of the bus at the intersection of Republic Road and Maria Street and hit 12
people, spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said.
Eight people were injured, three of them critically. They were treated on the scene before being taken to hospital.
Mulaudzi initially said five people were injured, but later corrected the figure to eight.
He also clarified that only one person was believed to have been waiting for the bus, and that the others were pedestrians.
The bus also hit a minibus in the accident, but none of the occupants were physically harmed.
At 6.30pm three of the dead were still trapped under the bus. The road was closed in both directions while the scene was cleared.
