Johannesburg - A man was seriously injured when his car fell on him in Meredale, south of Johannesburg, on Thursday morning, paramedics said.

He was working underneath the vehicle at his home at the time, ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said.

Four construction workers near the house heard a bang. Paramedics found the man, believed to be in his 40s, with serious chest and head injuries.

He was treated on the scene and taken to the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital.
