Johannesburg – Airports Company South Africa confirmed that a British Airways aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg earlier on Monday.

In a statement, ACSA spokesperson Colin Naidoo said the British Airways aircraft (BA6234), operated by Comair, made the emergency landing at 12:06pm.

The runway had to be temporarily closed.

Naidoo said “the airport is now utilising the second runway and this has caused some delays in and out of OR Tambo International Airport”.

The pilot reportedly told passengers that the left landing gear had broken off.

Passengers had to disembark from an emergency staircase.
