Johannesburg - Police are looking for three men who fled with jewellery after robbing the Jewellery Design Company store at the Cresta Shopping Centre on Wednesday morning.
Linden police spokeswoman Constable Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the three thieves entered the store at about 11am and held staff at gunpoint.
“They stole a lot of stock. We can’t disclose the worth of the jewellery at this stage,” she said, adding that when the robbers fled, they fired a warning shot to get patrons out of their way. No one was injured.
The robbers drove away in a black Nissan Navara and headed towards Beyers Naudé Drive.
“We’re investigating a case of business robbery,” Mulamu said, adding that anyone with information should call the police emergency line on 10 111, contact the Linden police station or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
The centre was the target of a spate of robberies a few months ago.
On July 23, six armed men held up three cashiers at Bidvest Bank and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
The following day, Telkom Direct was robbed just after the store opened for business.
According to media reports, two men who claimed they were making a delivery entered the store with a trolley containing two boxes.
Once inside the store, they demanded the keys to the safe and stole R36 000 and a few cellphones.
They hid the stolen goods in the boxes inside the trolley, but when they realised that a security guard had been watching them, they headed for an emergency exit inside the shop and left the trolley and the stolen goods behind.
