Johannesburg - A father of four died when a car and a truck collided in Mogale City, west of Johannesburg, Gauteng paramedics said on Friday.

The man's wife and their four boys, aged between four and 12, were all critically injured, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said in a statement.

The accident happened on Thursday night at the West Village intersection in Krugersdorp.

“It is understood that an articulated truck apparently made a U-turn at the intersection. The family’s vehicle crashed into the side of the truck.

“Paramedics found the father dead behind the steering wheel of his vehicle... The mother was found in the front of the vehicle with critical injuries.”

She was admitted to Leratong Hospital.

Paramedics also found four boys, believed to be between the ages of four and 12, in a critical condition, Vermaak said.

Two of the children were taken to Leratong Hospital, a medical helicopter airlifted one of the boys to Garden City Hospital and the other was transported to Milpark Hospital. - Sapa
