Johannesburg - A 25-year-old man died when his car collided with a lamp post in Elsburg, east of Johannesburg on Saturday, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

“A white Hyundai H100 Light delivery vehicle (travelling) from Katlehong to Kempton Park, lost control and crashed into an electrical streetlamp where one person unfortunately died and two (were) left traumatised,” said Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.

The two male passengers, 27 and 38, were not physically injured, but promised to go for a medical check-up at a later stage.

Mokheseng said the driver lost control of the vehicle when it was approaching the Tedstonville traffic circle.

It was suspected that weather conditions played a role.

“It is not clear at this stage what actually occurred before the accident but, preliminary investigation reveals that, since it was raining, the road was wet and slippery,” said Mokheseng. - Sapa
