Johannesburg – Gauteng MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi on Thursday warned teachers against having romantic relationships with learners.

He said a picture showing a teacher kissing a learner has been doing the rounds and has come to the attention of the department of education.

"The learner is disputing the picture and so is the teacher. It's clear that as a department we are compelled to act. The matter will be attended to and the picture will be examined to determine if it is in fact real or photoshopped," Lesufi said.

When asked about the water crisis at the Ormonde Primary School, the MEC said that he was worried about the issue and was working tirelessly to deal with the matter.

"We made a commitment to deal with the matter and the change of government made it difficult. I apologise to learners and the parents at the school," said Lesufi.

"We share their frustration and pain and I don't want to subject any school to. I'm worried about Ormonde and other schools where we need local government to help us."
