Johannesburg - Eight people were injured when a minibus taxi and car collided at the Olivenhout and Northumberland roads intersection in Randburg, Johannesburg, on Friday evening, Gauteng paramedics said.

ER24’s rescue vehicle and two ambulances responded to the scene and arrived at about 5.30pm, spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“It was found that a taxi and light motor vehicle had collided in the intersection, leaving both badly damaged. Both vehicles were found upright on the centre island. Paramedics quickly went to work, inspecting the vehicles and securing the scene.”

On assessment, paramedics found two people, a man and woman, trapped inside the car. Six of the taxi passengers were injured. ER24 paramedics, along with fire services, used specialised tools to free the two people trapped in the car. The operation lasted 45 minutes.

“Once freed, paramedics found that all eight patients, including the two previously trapped, had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.”

The details surrounding the accident were not yet known, Meiring said.
