Johannesburg - A baby boy died when a driver had an epileptic fit and crashed into a mother and four children in Soweto on Monday, said Johannesburg emergency services.

The 39-year-old woman was walking with her children, aged between 16 and six-months, in Meadowlands, when the driver of a Mercedes-Benz lost control of the vehicle and it hit them, spokesman Synock Matobako said.

The baby died at the scene. Two of the children were seriously injured. The mother and the fourth child sustained moderate injuries, he said.

The driver of the car was also seriously injured.

Matobako described the accident as “a great tragedy”. - Sapa
