It’s billed as the biggest New Year’s Eve bash yet. But more interesting to 5FM’s groovy social gathering is that the beach will be coming to town. The 5FM black tie and barefoot New Year’s Eve beach party will, for the first time, be staged at Outer Limits in Broadacres, Fourways, on Monday.

A host of the radio station’s DJs, such as Clive, Fix and Catherine will be joined on the decks by Global Spin Award-winner, DJ Roxxi, Didi, Vybe and Chizzy as well as Spinn Bad and Shai.

“The Beach Party is not only the official 5FM New Year’s Eve event in Joburg but it is also expected to attract close to 4 000 people, making it one of the city’s biggest events. We’ve ordered over 38 tons of beach sand to create an out-of-this-world man-made beach, inspired by the best beaches from all over the world. And we are covered come rain or shine. This massive New Year’s Eve event was inspired by the original 5FM Black Tie & Barefoot 2010 party in Durban as well as the Sunset Beach Party at Outer Limits last year,” said event producer Pieter Rossouw.

Africa’s first Indian female DJ, Roxxi, who recently received the Best DJ in Africa award for the newly-launched Global Spin Awards in New York, said she was looking forward to January because December had been the craziest month for her. “I can’t wait to start 2013. I’d like to take my brand to another level. There are also two tracks that I’m working on. I’ve decided to do a mini album. My underlying theme in the new year is to also push female DJs forward as there are many undiscovered talents out there,” she said.

On the day, music lovers can expect an interesting set-piece from Roxxi. She will be playing commercial stuff and taking her fans through the year.

“I want them to say: ‘hey, that’s the song that played in February when I did this and that…’,” she said.

Meanwhile The Fresh Drive DJ and producer Catherine Grenfell said she was excited. “I think it’s so amazing. We had something similar in Durban a couple of years ago but this should be the biggest and most fun party of all time.”

The all-rounder DJ said she would be playing a couple of songs that were unusual but would still maintain her versatility and play songs to keep the crowd swaying until the early hours.

Music enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to usher in the new year with a bit of vivacity.

The dress code on the day is simple: black tie-style or one can dress down in beach gear and go barefoot. -Saturday Star
