Johannesburg - Power was disrupted in Nellmapius, Pretoria, on Friday because of faulty cables, the City of Tshwane said.

“The disruption of the power supply has been as a result of two main feeder cables which were found to be faulty at Nellmapius substation,” spokesman Selby Bokaba said in a statement.

He said one cable supplied the area with power, and therefore rotational load-shedding would be implemented.

“This revolving shut-down will occur in the area on a four-hourly basis and is anticipated to be on-going for the rest of the day.”

He warned residents that certain streets would be on and off for a while until the cables were fixed.

Electricity users were urged to switch off all non-essential appliances to help cut the load on the electrical network.
