The long-term effects of the brain injury suffered by a matric pupil who was knocked down by a VIP vehicle in November would be established in about two years, the Beeld reported on Saturday.
“There may be lasting consequences for his further education and career, but it's still too early to determine with certainty,” the teenager's doctor Kris Mon told the publication.
“It can affect his intellectual and cognitive abilities.”
Mon said his progress was satisfactory.
Thomas Ferreira, 19, was riding his motorcycle last year when he was struck by housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi's official car.
Ferreira was recuperating at the Riverfield Lodge rehabilitation unit in Randburg, northern Johannesburg.
Police confirmed on November 9 that a case of reckless or negligent driving had been opened against the driver. - Sapa
