Johannesburg - Five people died and one was injured when two vehicles collided head-on on Sunday morning on the N14, Gauteng, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said they arrived on the scene and found both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road. “On assessment, paramedics found that five occupants had been traveling in the first vehicle while only one had been in the second vehicle,” he said.

“When paramedics inspected the first vehicle, they found the lifeless bodies of two occupants, while the third lay in a critical condition. Two other occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and had sustained fatal injuries.”

Meiring said the driver of the second car was found lying slumped over the steering wheel, in a critical condition.

“Unfortunately, after some time, the critically injured patient from the first vehicle succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead on scene.” Meiring said one patient was taken to a nearby hospital. The cause of the accident was not yet known.
