Johannesburg – Four people were killed when a VW Polo and a Nissan bakkie collided head on the Pretoria Road in Kempton Park, paramedics said on Wednesday.

The accident happened near the Elgen Road just before the traffic circle on Tuesday morning, said ER 24 spokesman Derrick Banks.

“Paramedics assessed the occupants in the Polo and found that all four had sustained very traumatic and fatal injuries and were declared dead on the scene,” said Banks.

Emergency personnel had to use the 'Jaws of Life' to extricate the victim from the scene.

The driver of the bakkie, who was travelling alone at the time of the accident, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The cause of the accident was unknown. – Sapa
