Johannesburg -The Gauteng Health department has enough financial resources to meet its obligations between now and the end of the financial year in March, it said on Tuesday.
“According to the third quarter report, the department has spent 76 percent (R20.6 billion) of the R27.1 billion adjusted budget, exceeding its target by only one percent,” department spokesman Simon Zwane said in a statement.
“The reason for the over-expenditure is the payment of accruals from the previous financial year.”
On January 30, the department released R146 million to pay all its suppliers, he said.
Up until then the department had paid all small, medium and micro-sized enterprises.
Zwane said it had spent 74.6 percent of the adjusted payment on compensation for employees.
“This expenditure is well within the expected target of 75 percent.
