Johannesburg – Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi on Monday urged motorists to drive carefully as continued rainfall had flooded most provincial roads since the weekend. Road maintenance teams were out attending to flooded roads, he said.

"Although there are no provincial roads reported to be structurally damaged as a result of the continuing heavy rain storms, some roads were affected due to debris. The department's team is currently clearing rubble at the Witkoppen Road bridges, including storm water drains across all roads. Furthermore, a standby team has been assembled to attend to any emergencies that might occur," Vadi said.

"I appeal to motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads as heavy rains are expected to continue throughout the province."

The province has experienced heavy rainfall, including flash floods, while other provinces such as Mpumalanga and Limpopo also experienced heavy rainfall from the weekend.
