The Gautrain's route between Park Station and Rosebank will be opened on Thursday, said the Bombela Concession Company.

“Bombela is delighted to confirm that the final leg of the Gautrain system... will commence operations on Thursday, 7 June 2012,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

A single ticket between Hatfield, in Pretoria, and Park Station would cost R52 and a similar trip between Sandton and Park Station would cost R22.

Passengers would no longer have to board a bus at Rosebank to go into the Johannesburg CBD.

Passengers with seven-day or 35-day passes, and who currently stop at Rosebank, could use these to reach Park Station, but would be charged an extra R3 on their gold cards, the company said.

The Railway Safety Regulator informed Bombela on Wednesday that it had no objection to the extension of the Gautrain service to Park Station.

“We congratulate the operator on the new line that will be opened and believe the public will benefit from this new route,” it said. - Sapa
