Pretoria - Winter has come to Pretoria and daytime temperatures are set to decrease while night time has become bitterly cold, meteorologists warn.

The beginning of June marks the change of season and heralds the start of the cold winter season, which runs until August.

Temperatures on Wednesday will start at a minimum of 7ºC, peaking at 23ºC as the day progresses.

“Temperatures are lowering as the cold creeps in,” the SA Weather Service’s Mkhushulwa Msimang said. Daytime maximum temperatures are averaging between 22ºC and 24ºC but they are set to dip after the weekend.

“On Monday, we are expecting a cold front, which won't be severe, but it will make the days colder,” he said.

Msimang said the current weather in Pretoria left the morning and evenings rather chilly, and the days cool.

It was cold from sunrise until about 9am, after which it warmed up.
